The art of seeing. "It is essential to an architect to know how to see: I mean, to see in such a way that the vision is not overpowered by rational analysis"
– Luis Barragan

ROBIN ANDERSON MAHAFFEY

Robin is a second generation architect. Her father Ralph David Anderson has his own award winning practice in Chicago until 1978. She worked in his practice during summers home from school. She benefited greatly from his insights, lessons, instincts, and passion for the profession. It was a clear advantage to have had such a head start, and by her late twenties, she was licensed and managing large urban prjects.

Robin had the opportunity to work at many of the top Denver firms. Her early technical skills allowed her to have a wide variety of project experiences in commercial, institutional, and corporate projects in major leadership roles. In 1982 she was offered employment at Peter Dominick's small design firm. The transition from corporate firm to a small generalist firm allowed her to return to her design roots. She did many of Peter's renderings and design studies. Her goal was follow in her father's footsteps, and start her own firm.

Upon returning to Chicago in 1988, Anderson + Mahaffey was formed in 1990. Projects were predominately residential commissions ranging from modest additions to $2.5 million new construction. Her husband Tom Mahaffey joined the firm in 1998. The firm grew to expand project types to historic renovations, religious, higher education, civic projects and restaurants.

RAM ARCHITECTURE was formed in 2011. A life long modernist, RAM ARCHITECTURE offers work in development, with an optimistic nod to a future beyond. Commissions are welcome!
